Second laboratory for this class…

Hi!

this is your dear blogger writing another entry for you guys. . .I gues at this point, this blog is not yet visited by people and will never will be. . .haha. .This is my second time to write at this category, it is kind of personal or just the ‘write what ever I wanna write’ portion of the blog with out any rules. Hmmmm. . .yesterday at lecture of this subject, we were assigned to do 5 categories and for each category we need to make 3 posts. So don’t be surprised if posts are just appearing on this blog.hehe. . .What happened this day?first we had a class 10am to 1pm which is Seminars and fieldtrip, we started the class at 11am or I guess that was 11:30. Next class is graphics and animation where we should draw what is required and do it at the computer. I’m not an artist so my drawings suck. After that class we had a meeting for our thesis, the meeting was not that pleasant because our batch may not graduate on time if we can’t finish our projects in time. Status of our project = DELAYED. Then this is the last class. . .Laboratory where we should make lots of posts. . .and right now I really do not know what to write anymore. .I think I’m gunna make more posts just to finish the job.

Counseling on alcohol key to teens’ sexual health

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – When health care providers are talking with adolescents about sexual health, alcohol must be a part of the conversation, conclude two researchers from the UK based on a survey of boys’ and girls’ attitudes about sexual relationships.

“We must ensure that alcohol education is a key element of sex education and help young people to realize the vulnerability to sexual ill health alcohol abuse can create,” Dr. Mark Hayter of the University of Sheffield in the UK, who conducted the research with Dr. Christina Harrison of Doncaster Primary Care Trust, told Reuters Health.

In most of the world, adolescents are at high risk of sexual health problems such as unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, Hayter and Harrison note in a report in the Journal of Clinical Nursing. To better understand gender differences in how young people think about sex, the researchers conducted 10 focus groups with 35 14- to 16-year-olds. The teens were attending a sexual health clinic based at a youth club serving a “socially deprived” area with a high rate of teen pregnancy. Five groups were all girls, and the rest were all boys.

Each group discussed four scenarios: a couple in which the girl doesn’t want to have sex but the boy does; a boy who is being tormented by his friends because he doesn’t want to have sex with his girlfriend; a popular girl who is reputed to be having sex with lots of older boys; and a girl who is placed in a situation where she is expected to have sex after her two friends pair off with three boys visiting them at a sleepover.

The researchers found stark differences in how boys and girls talked about these situations.

The girls showed a much more complex understanding of the situations and exhibited empathy for the people involved, including the boys. But the boys only discussed how the male in the situation was thinking, “not demonstrating any empathy with the female partner in the relationship,” they explain.

And while the girls never used “negative, aggressive or coercive language” when discussing sex, the boys did. For example, some said that a boy whose girlfriend slept around would have the right to “slap her in the face” and that exerting pressure on a girl to have sex is “not a proper rape sort of thing.”

Boys also talked about getting girls drunk so they would be more likely to have sex with them.

Hayter and Harrison suggest that health care professionals who work with adolescents do what they can to get young males to think about how girls feel and to empathize with them, while helping young women to develop the social skills they need to resist pressure from boys and from their peers to have sex.

Also, they add, “helping young people to approach alcohol sensibly should be a key element of sexual health promotion,” given that alcohol and sex are “inextricably linked.”

– article is about concerns with alcoholic beverages and sex. Doctors are considering alcohol a key element that trigger’s teenagers to have sex. They have the concerns of having unplanned pregnancy and STD’s. Good thing sex education is open or just taken as normal in the U.S. and U.K., unlike here in the Philippines, I really dont know their side if they would like to consider sex education a need for teenagers. Any way. . .for me, this study is a benefit for us. It’s like a domino effect that this alcoholic beverages makes teens indulge to sex, which may result to unplanned pregnancy or may result to infections which we call STD. Would like to thank the Doctors who came up with this idea, this would help teens to understand more.

National Geographic getting into video games (AP)

NEW YORK – National Geographic, best known for its yellow-framed magazine and often breathtaking nature shows, is getting into video games.

National Geographic Ventures, a unit of the nonprofit National Geographic Society, was set to announce Tuesday it will work with game publishers to turn its material into games for PCs, consoles and handheld devices.

“Our content is extremely well-suited for a global gaming audience,” said Paul Levine, a National Geographic executive who will lead the new games division. The games will be drawn from a broad range of content and themes across National Geographic’s properties.

The first title — available now for computers and the iPhone — is “Herod’s Lost Tomb,” a simple hidden-objects game built on a story in the magazine’s December issue and a television show about King Herod. It’s produced in-house by National Geographic. The company is also working with Namco Bandai Games America and Sony Computer Entertainment to publish and distribute games under its brand for consoles like the Wii and the PlayStation 3.

Namco Bandai’s “National Geographic: Panda” for the handheld Nintendo DS, available this month, plays something like “Nintendogs,” the 2005 virtual pet game that had you taking care of a puppy, and the aptly named “Zoo Tycoon” that puts you in charge of a zoo, Levine said.

While the games seek to offer “entertainment with substance,” Levine said he doesn’t expect them to be used in schools.

“They are games, first and foremost,” he said.

Other upcoming titles include “Rain Forests” and “Greencity,” slated for next year from National Geographic, as well as “National Geographic: Africa,” available next month from Sony.

-this article is about national geographic interested or open of what they have to be done or developed as games. for me this is better that other games with no sense at all. We enjoy playing the game at the same time learing facts from it. Playing a game based on national geographic would make me feel like I am a part of the history or event because the game would let you experience what really happened in real life. Hopefuly this games would be released soon, will be looking out for this games. =P

Intro to IT422 and first time to make a blog

I am a student of Central Philippine University, Iloilo City Philippines, taking up BSIT. This blog is made for my class IT422 as an introduction for our first laboratory meeting. For me, a blog topic can be anything under the sun. Hmmmm….. what I have in mind right now?…this class schedule is kinda late but its not a big deal. My idea for this class… teaching us to make blogs and managing it. Manage in terms of its content and design. Good thing there are new computers here and students will benefit from what they have paid. One class is making blogs at this moment and I’m one of them. Connection on the internet is slow.  Till next time on the blog making….hopefully I can write more next time.Check out my sample pictures, to the left is just a vector wallpaper and at the right side is a screenshot a game that I always play.
